What will the Sun's final moments look like?
Last week Hubble's Wide Field Planetary Camera 2 caught the remnants of the final moments of the life of NGC 2440. The star at the center of the nebula is much like our Sun, and the view offers a glimpse at how the Sun will end. The star is shedding its outer layers of material forming a cocoon around the hot remnant, a white dwarf.
